eBay username lookup

An eBay username lookup reads the public member profile behind a username and returns it as fields. eBay publishes the date an account registered, the country it registered in and the profile address for every live member, then adds a feedback score and rating history for accounts that have traded. There is no charge to check one here.

Exposure

What eBay exposes.

What a public eBay profile reports to a username search, field by field. Availability is honest per row: a mark says how often the field comes back, the note says when it does not.

4/8fields usually public
Member since dateusually

eBay prints the registration date on every member profile, which makes it one of the few consumer sites that dates an account for you.

Registered countryusually

The country the account was opened in. That is not the same as where a parcel ships from, and the two disagree more often than buyers expect.

Profile addressusually

A stable page for the member that keeps working across years of listings.

Display nameusually

Ordinarily just the username again, because eBay members almost never set anything else.

Feedback scoresometimes

A count of ratings from completed transactions. A zero next to an old registration date marks an account that signed up and never traded.

Feedback commentssometimes

Left by other members and fully public. They name items, dates and sometimes places, and they are the richest text on any eBay profile.

Current listingssometimes

Public, and the photographs are usually taken at home, which discloses more about a seller than any field on the profile.

Name and addressnever

eBay keeps member names and postal addresses between the two parties of a transaction, and no public page carries either.

Run it

Three steps: eBay lookup.

  1. Step 1

Enter the member username from the listing or the profile address.

  2. Step 2

eBay is checked with the rest of the catalogue in a single pass, so the same username on a social or payment platform comes back with it.

  3. Step 3

Read the member since date against the feedback score first, then open the feedback comments for anything the profile fields leave out.

Questions

Before you search eBay.

Does eBay show a seller's real name?

Not on a public profile. A name only reaches the other party in a transaction, so a listing page alone will never give you one.

How do I check how long an account has been trading?

The member since date gives registration, and the feedback history gives actual trading. A 2009 account with feedback starting last month is a very different thing from a 2009 account with continuous history.

Can I see what someone bought?

Purchase history is private. Feedback the buyer left is public though, and it names the seller and roughly when the purchase happened.

Does the country on the profile tell me where the seller is?

It tells you where the account was registered. Where goods actually ship from is on the listing and is often somewhere else entirely.

Is a low feedback score a warning?

Not by itself; it is normal for a buyer who rarely sells. The pattern worth attention is a new account with no history carrying high-value listings.

A seller's username matches someone I know. Is it them?

No. Usernames are recycled and copied across marketplaces, so an account existing under a familiar name is not evidence about who is running it.

Can I look up a member for free?

Yes. This page runs three checks a day for each visitor with no sign-up, and a free account keeps your results if you are comparing several sellers.

More lookups

Username, then email, then phone.

A match on eBay is a lead. The other two lookups turn what it exposes into the next identifier.
