Open-source intelligence

What is OSINT search?

OSINT search is the practice of starting from one identifier, such as a username, email address or phone number, and checking open sources for the accounts and public details linked to it. OSINT stands for open-source intelligence. An OSINT search tool runs those checks for you, querying hundreds of sources at once instead of one site at a time.

Former names and gone accounts

Earlier names can leave traces.

A search may return former usernames and traces of deleted, suspended or banned accounts where supported sources still provide information.

Example handle history

Example: a current handle followed by three earlier names, the oldest of which belongs to an account that no longer exists.

Former usernamesEarlier names reported for an account.
Review former handles where a source provides them, then cross-reference a relevant name to follow the next lead.
Gone accountsTraces of deleted, suspended or banned accounts.
Review the profile details and account status that supported sources still return. Available information depends on the account and the source.
Linked profilesConnections worth investigating.
Compare names, links, avatars and bios across results. Shared details can suggest a connection; verify it before treating accounts as the same person.

Available information varies by source. Treat historical details and account links as leads to verify.

Method

How an OSINT search works.

Search across profiles and available exposure records. Start an on-demand query, review the responses and verify findings against their sources.

753endpoints
  1. 01

    You type a username

Handles are normalized (case, leading @, pasted profile URLs) to make supported input formats easier to search.

  2. 02

    Supported sources are checked

The username corpus includes 753 endpoints. Your query starts the lookup, and matches appear as responses arrive. Availability and completion times vary by source.

  3. 03

Hits are filtered, cross-referenced and ranked

Brand accounts and placeholders are dropped. Bios and link pages are parsed for further handles, which are checked in turn and ranked with the rest.

Questions

What it searches, and what it keeps.

Anything not answered here: contact us.

What is an OSINT search engine?

Checking an identifier by hand means visiting one site after another and reading each profile page. An OSINT search engine automates that: you enter one username, email address or phone number and get the matching accounts from many sources in one filtered, ranked list. OSINTsearch starts a query across supported sources when you search, and results appear as each source responds.

Is OSINT search legal?

OSINTsearch queries public sources and third-party providers. Whether a particular use is lawful depends on where you are and what you do with the results, so you are responsible for complying with applicable laws and our Acceptable Use Policy. OSINTsearch is not a consumer reporting agency, and results may not be used for credit, employment, housing or other FCRA-covered decisions. This answer is not legal advice.

Can I run an OSINT search for free?

Yes. Run a free search on this page without an account, or create a free account to search from the dashboard each week. Paid plans add higher weekly limits and access to deeper research.

How many platforms do you cover?

A username scan queries 753 endpoints, which is every module in the username corpus. Email and phone lookups use their own supported sources in the dashboard and are counted separately. Availability and results vary by source.

What does OSINTsearch actually search?

Username search checks supported social, gaming, creator, developer and marketplace sources for matching public profiles. Available details can include display name, bio, avatar, follower counts, links, location and join date. Paid plans also offer breach-exposure research through third-party providers.

Is the scan on this page real?

Yes. Pressing Scan starts an on-demand query and results appear as supported sources respond. The public preview shows available handles, names and reported counts. A free account lets you explore the dashboard; access and allowances vary by plan.

How are results ranked?

Major services and verified accounts come first, then profiles with the largest audience and the most public data. Obvious false positives (a service returning its own brand account, placeholder profiles) are filtered before anything reaches you.

Can I search by email or phone as well?

Yes. The dashboard supports email and phone lookups against their own supported sources. Available fields depend on the source and your access. Each search follows the credit and eligibility rules shown in the dashboard.

How can I request removal from results?

Use the opt-out page to submit a suppression request for your identifiers. Our Privacy Policy explains information handling, your rights and the verification process.

Where does the information come from?

Social results come from supported profile sources; breach-exposure research uses third-party providers. A query runs when you start it, while individual findings may describe earlier activity. Check the source and its dates before relying on a result.
